THE FIRST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS BUILD A JIG TO GUIDE YOU CIRCULAR SAW.
Below is a picture of the one I built, I used an old door from the remodeling I have been doing around the house, for the table of mine. You will need a pair of saw horses and some nails or screws to fasten it all together.
You will need two pieces of 3/4" inch think lumber approx. 2.5' in length of some sort to go at the top and the bottom of your jig, this is the correct depth to let the siding and soffit slide through your jig easily so you can cut it nicely. You will also need a piece of plywood to put across the two pieces of 3/4" wood to have a place for the foot of your saw to ride on.
To the right of the plywood you will be putting another piece of wood that is very straight because this will be your guide for your saw. The foot of your saw will slide against it. Be sure there is about a 2" gap between your plywood and your guide. I used a large square to be sure everything was plumb and square so my cuts would be straight.
Next you want to use an old saw blade if you have one, preferably one with a high tooth count to get a smoother cut, and turn it around so that it will run backwards when you turn the saw on.
If you leave the blade in the correct direction it will just bite into the siding and soffit and bend it all up, and effectively ruin the piece you are trying to cut smoothly.
By turning the blade around and running it backwards it will NOT bite in and it will cut very smoothly and leave a nice factory straight edge to work with. When you cut siding you may have to trim the top and bottom edges as the factory has done to get the pieces to overlap correctly, this is easily accomplished with a pair of tin snips. They make right, straight, and left hand cutting tin snips to make it even easier.
I hold the piece I am cutting tight to the 3/4" piece of wood with my left hand and run my saw with my right hand.
Be sure to wear safety glasses as flying pieces of metal and vinyl in your eyes doesn't feel good at all.
As you can see it works very well!!
